Synchronized renewals
Synchronized renewals align every subscription to a fixed calendar day instead of the customer’s signup anniversary. This is useful for predictable revenue timing or clean accounting cycles.
When to use synchronized renewals
- You want all monthly subscribers to renew on the same day of the month.
- You want all yearly subscribers to renew on a specific month and day.
- You want cleaner billing cycles that line up with calendar months or a fiscal reporting date.
If you want every customer to keep their own anniversary, leave sync disabled. If you want subscriptions to end on a shared date rather than renew on one, use Fixed expiry.
Enabling synchronized renewals
The sync settings live under Subscriptions → Settings → Checkout:
- Turn on Enable synchronized renewals.
- Choose Renewal day of month (1 to 28). Used for monthly and quarterly subscriptions, and as the day for yearly renewals.
- Choose Renewal month (yearly subscriptions) (January to December). Yearly subscriptions renew on this month and the day selected above.
- Optionally turn on Prorate first payment so the first payment reflects the days remaining until the next sync date.
- Save.
The plugin does not expose a “Last day of month” choice or a separate weekly-sync setting.
Proration behavior
Proration is a single toggle. When enabled, the first payment is calculated based on the days remaining until the next sync date. When disabled, the customer pays the full billing-period amount at signup.
Trials and sign-up fees
Sign-up fees are charged at checkout as usual. Trial interaction with sync is handled by the plugin’s renewal scheduling.
Interaction with other features
Fixed expiry
A subscription with both sync and Fixed expiry will renew on sync dates until the fixed expiry date, then expire.
Expire after
Expire after is counted in billing periods, so a 3-period limit on a monthly synced subscription captures three sync-date renewals.
Switching
Switches to a synced product inherit the sync schedule.
Reporting
Because every renewal happens on the same day, expect revenue spikes at sync points. MRR normalization is unchanged; your MRR figure does not spike, only the cash timing.
Troubleshooting
A customer paid the full price instead of a prorated amount
Verify Prorate first payment is enabled. With proration off, every customer pays the full period at signup.
The setting lives under a different tab than expected
The synchronized renewals options live in the Checkout tab of the settings page, alongside other recurring-payment rules.
